Crafty Recipe - Wormy Popcorn Ballsby Wen Zientek-Sico Everyone gets a kick out of these cute and slightly gross popcorn balls! Add a pyramid of them to the holiday table, or wrap individually in plastic wrap and black and orange ribbons for take home treats. We used this non-traditional marshmallow-popcorn mixture for our popcorn balls because we love the snowy white color, and more importantly, the mixture is easier to make than traditional popcorn balls, less likely to burn little hands, won't make the gummy worms melt, and is more malleable for a longer time if your helpers are slow at forming the balls. Add they won't break your teeth either! |
Wormy Popcorn Balls

30 marshmallows
1 1/2 tablespoons butter
10 cups popped popcorn
2 cups black and orange gummy worms
Additional butter for greasing hands
Place waxed paper on a large countertop surface or on several baking sheets. Melt the marshmallows and butter in the microwave until smooth. Toss the marshmallows with the popcorn and gummy worms until thoroughly coated. Using well buttered hands, form the popcorn and candy into small balls, allowing the worms to peek or even trail out of the balls. You will need to regrease your hands multiple times while making the balls to prevent sticking. Place the formed balls on the waxed paper and let dry for at least two hours before eating. If it is very humid out, store in an airtight container or else the balls will absorb the moisture and get sticky.
Makes 15 popcorn balls.
