Crafty Recipe - Orange Jack O'Lantern Rollsby Wen Zientek-Sico We used premade orange refrigerator rolls to make these really cute and tasty snacks, dessert, or breakfast treats. Cinnamon rolls can be used as well, just dye the frosting orange. We found the orange frosting to be a bit pale for our taste, so we used a small amount of orange gel paste food color to get a really orange color, but you certainly do not need to. Both Tootsie Rolls and Air Heads made great faces for our Jack O'Lanterns, but any small candy works well, including candy corn or chocolate chips. |
Orange Jack O'Lantern Rolls

1 can refrigerated orange rolls
2 green Air Heads candy and/or 8 Tootsie Rolls
Orange food coloring
Bake the rolls according to the package directions, but let cool slightly before frosting. While the rolls are baking, make the Jack O'Lantern faces. Microwave the Air Heads candy for 20 seconds or the Tootsie Rolls for 5 minutes apiece. For the Air Heads shapes, roll flat with a rolling pin and then cut out the shapes for the eyes, nose, mouth, and stem. For the Tootsie Roll faces, roll the Tootsie Roll to about twice its normal width. Pinch off a small piece for each eye, the nose, and the stem. Curve the remaining piece for the mouth. Set the pieces aside. Remove the rolls from the pan and place on a serving dish. Stir the frosting, adding a bit of orange food coloring if desired. Frost each roll, and add the candy face and stems. Let dry for a minute and then eat while still warm.
Makes 8 servings.
